‘ROOM WITH A VIEW’

Room With a View (cover)

February brings the RPM challenge along every year. It’s always an exciting time with folks hidden away, working through ideas, and banding together for help, creating weird audible joys. Lately, I’ve been working on final mixes for a sophomore release, and running over new recordings from McGill University in Montreal. I had no intension to record an RPM album this year. However, we were moving out of our beloved house at the time, and the spirit struck me. Our old place on Military Road was spacious, with lots of light, and dripping with beautiful and challenging artwork at every turn. I decided to put the creative energy of the home to good use one last time. This album was written and recorded from the top floor, perched in the window, on my last night in the house. Single takes, imperfections included, of these reflective cowboy songs. Certainly one for the night owls.

Greetings from Dawson City!

Steve - Dawson

Hello from Dawson City, Yukon!

I’m spending the month of January as songwriter in residence with the Dawson City Music Festival. This quiet little gold rush town is currently under a blanket of white, and still as can be. Long tails of smoke slipping from every chimney into the calm that surrounds. Beautiful and mysterious, much like home (NL). A great time for meditation and future planning. I’m in the ever-haunted Macaulay house, working on new music to be recorded in February at McGill University in Montreal. I’ve also been branching outside of songwriting, working on other written pieces which will hopefully come to light this year or the next.

I’ll be guest hosting a show on Dawson’s own CFYT this Wednesday, January 18th at 6pm (10:30pm NL time). I’ll be playing some music that’s caught my attention lately, with a brief segment on NL music as well. You can tune in online here… http://cfyt.ca/listen-live

Also! New shows coming up. Starting with a show on February 1st here in Dawson City at the KIAC Ballroom. I’ll also be playing at one of my favourite spots in Montreal Le Cagibi on Wednesday, February 8th. Keep your eyes peeled to the “Shows” section for more details soon.

I hope you’ve been settling into winter wherever you may be.

More to come,

SM

Final Shows of 2016

Hey folks,

I write this in-between email’s, confirming Christmas shows and plans for 2017. It seems the year is quickly slipping away. However we have some great shows planned for St. John’s to send 2016 out in style. More information on Christmas shows coming very soon. I can tell you that myself and KIM HARRIS are doing a brief tour of Newfoundland in November, starting with a kick off show at the Rock House on November 4th (with local party heroes INDIA). Both myself and Kim will be full band for that one. Then it’s off for duo shows at the Citadel House in Lewisporte (Nov.5th) and at the RAC in Corner Brook (Nov.6th).

Also, my new album with Joshua Van Tassel is coming along! Very excited to share this collaboration with you in the new year.

Hope the fall is treating you well. Stay warm.

July 16th @ the Rock House

SteveMaloney

July 16th at the Rock House will see the Wandering Kind paired up with Green & Gold, and Brianna Gosse, to bring a parting set in the summer heat. With a new album in the works, and hectic lives overlapping, the group will be resetting for a while before resurfacing for shows. New music, and friendship confirmed.
